For a very pedalboard-friendly size, the MXR Clone Looper is capable of a lot. Whether it's simply laying down a rhythm track to solo over, or stacking layers of tracks, this stompbox is a great practice and performance tool.
The pedal also has some more advanced capabilities; the volume knob doubles as a switch that can speed up and slow down the loop, as well as playing it in reverse. An external switch can be plugged into the CTR (Control) jack to make this easier. Furthermore, you can use an expression pedal in the EXP (Expression) jack to control the volume, and you can also use a switch here to play the loop once - this can be used for a stuttering DJ-esque effect.
This pedal can record loops up to 6 minutes long, with an infinite amount of tracks. The separate switches for recording and playing give greater control, and it's very easy to undo a loop - simply hold the Play/Stop button down for a few seconds. To clear the entire bank, hold Rec/Dub down for a few seconds.
